Abiding Precepts – Mosiah 15

Passage #1

And now Abinadi said unto them: I would that ye should understand that God himself shall come down among the children of men, and shall redeem his people.

Mosiah 15:1

Precept #1

Understand that God – the God worshipped by the Nephites; the true and living God worshipped by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and who covenanted eternal life to them – would come to earth to experience mortal life in order to redeem those people who embrace Him as their Savior and Redeemer. Understand that Jesus is this God, the Anointed One of Israel, and embrace His redemption.

Do you know – intellectually and spiritually – who God is? Do you know what He did for you? How do you embrace His redemption in your life? What does it feel like when you do?

Passage #2

And because he dwelleth in flesh he shall be called the Son of God, and having subjected the flesh to the will of the Father, being the Father and the Son . . .

And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, . . .

Yea, even so he shall be led, crucified, and slain, the flesh becoming subject even unto death, the will of the Son being swallowed up in the will of the Father.

Mosiah 15:2, 5, 7

Precept #2

Submit your will to the will of the Father for you.

Do you realize you are a child? Do you know your Heavenly Father? Do you know His will (or His desires) for you personally? Do you put your own will and desires aside so that you can pursue what He wants for you instead? Have you ever experienced the rewards of setting aside what you want in order to seek for the things God wants for you? Do you believe that the Lord wants greater things for you than you would give yourself – and that you can have them if you seek for them?

Passage #3

And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, being one God, suffereth temptation, and yieldeth not to the temptation, but suffereth himself to be mocked, and scourged, and cast out, and disowned by his people.

Mosiah 15:5

Precept #3

Suffer mockery and ridicule in the face of temptation and in order to defend what is right. “Take up your cross,” despise the shame of the world, and follow Jesus.

How does it feel when you choose to follow Christ and His doctrine in the face of ridicule or temptation?

Passage #4

Having ascended into heaven, having the bowels of mercy; being filled with compassion towards the children of men; standing betwixt them and justice; having broken the bands of death, taken upon himself their iniquity and their transgressions, having redeemed them, and satisfied the demands of justice.

Mosiah 15:9

Precept #4

Allow Jesus to break the bands of death in your life: give up your sins, transgressions, and false beliefs to Him and turn away from them in order to do good instead.

How does it feel to leave your sins and transgressions at Jesus’ feet and allow Him to take away the burden of them?

Passage #5

Behold I say unto you, that whosoever has heard the words of the prophets, yea, all the holy prophets who have prophesied concerning the coming of the Lordโ€”I say unto you, that all those who have hearkened unto their words, and believed that the Lord would redeem his people, and have looked forward to that day for a remission of their sins, I say unto you, that these are his seed, or they are the heirs of the kingdom of God.

For these are they whose sins he has borne; these are they for whom he has died, to redeem them from their transgressions. And now, are they not his seed?

Mosiah 15:11-12

Precept #5

Listen to, believe in, and follow the words of God’s prophets and become the Children of Christ.

Do you agree with and follow the counsel of God’s chosen prophets? Or do you look for flaws, and whether or not their messages line up with your personal opinions? Do you search to understand and follow their counsel or for reasons why you should reject it? Do you really want to be a child of Christ and are you willing to follow the guidance He gives through prophets and apostles to become so?

Bonus Passage

Bonus Precept

And these are they who have published peace, who have brought good tidings of good, who have published salvation; and said unto Zion: Thy God reigneth!

And O how beautiful upon the mountains were their feet!

And again, how beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those that are still publishing peace!

And again, how beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those who shall hereafter publish peace, yea, from this time henceforth and forever!

Mosiah 15:14-17

Publish peace, the good news of Christ’s kingdom, “henceforth and forever.”

How frequently do you tell people about Jesus and the work He did in His life and the work He is doing in yours?
