Passage #1
And again my brethren, I would call your attention, for I have somewhat more to speak unto you; for behold, I have things to tell you concerning that which is to come. . . .
Now it came to pass that the king commanded them that all the men should leave their wives and their children, and flee before the Lamanites.
Mosiah 19:11-12
Now there were many that would not leave them, but had rather stay and perish with them. And the rest left their wives and their children and fled. . . .
Precept #1
Learn to recognize when the instruction of wicked people is wrong and have the courage to disobey.
When someone in authority gives an instruction do you simply follow it without thinking about it? Are you so loyal to another human being or an organization that you complicitly do what’s wrong because your loyalty supersedes your sense of right and wrong?
Passage #2
Now it came to pass that the king commanded them that all the men should leave their wives and their children, and flee before the Lamanites.
Mosiah 19:11-12
Now there were many that would not leave them, but had rather stay and perish with them. And the rest left their wives and their children and fled. . . .
Precept #2
Don’t abandon your sacred responsibilities.
What sacred responsibilities has God given you? How actively involved are you in making sure they get done – and are done well?
Passage #3
And now Limhi was desirous that his father should not be destroyed; nevertheless, Limhi was not ignorant of the iniquities of his father, he himself being a just man.
Mosiah 19:17
Precept #3
Love everyone – even those who do what is wrong.
Is there someone you are struggling to love because of their choices? How would your life and theirs be blessed by your love?
Passage #4
And now Limhi was desirous that his father should not be destroyed; nevertheless, Limhi was not ignorant of the iniquities of his father, he himself being a just man.
Mosiah 19:17
Precept #4
Don’t let love blind you to the iniquities of others.
Do you gloss over or dismiss the wrong doings of others because you love them? Or do you let your love see the truth and keep you on righteousness’ path and seek to help them back to it as well?
Passage #5
And it came to pass that Limhi began to establish the kingdom and to establish peace among his people.
Mosiah 19:27
Precept #5
Seek to establish peace in our places of influence.
When was the last time that peace was the focus and motivation of your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions toward another person or group of people?
