Abiding Precepts – 1 Nephi 1

Passage #1

. . . Lehi, as he went forth prayed unto the Lord, yea, even with all his heart, in behalf of his people.

1 Nephi 1:5

Precept #1

Pray to the Lord. And when you do it, pray with all your heart for the people around you.


Who are your people? Do you pray for them? With all of your heart? With any of it at all?


Passage #2

. . . he thought he saw God sitting upon his throne, surrounded with numberless concourses of angels in the attitude of singing and praising their God.

1 Nephi 1:8

Precept #2

When you sing the hymns sing to God. Praise Him always for all you have and all you experience in life.


What was the last hymn you sang from your heart? How did it become a prayer unto the Lord?


Passage #3

. . . after the Lord had shown so many marvelous things unto my father, Lehi, yea, concerning the destruction of Jerusalem, behold he went forth among the people, and began to prophesy and to declare unto them concerning the things which he had both seen and heard.

1 Nephi 1:18

Precept #3

Once you have a testimony, share it!


Who was the last person to hear your testimony? What truths did you share with them?


Passage #4

. . . behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith . . .

1 Nephi 1:20

Precept #4

Show yourself all the tender mercies the Lord has shown to you.


What tender mercies has the Lord shown you in your life because you have exercised faith in Him?
